Colorado Bar Association CLE

CBA-CLE is an independent nonprofit corporation organized in support of the

Colorado and Denver Bar Associations to provide continuing legal education in Colorado.

About Colorado Bar Association CLE

CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION IN COLORADO, INC., CBA-CLE, is the nonprofit corporation organized to serve as the educational arm of the Colorado Bar Association and the Denver Bar Association, and is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. CBA-CLE offers a full range of educational services, including live programs, webcasts, audio and video home studies, and publications.

CBA-CLE's mission is to provide an organized, sustained, and affordable program of continuing legal education for the benefit of Colorado legal professionals and the members of the public who are served by those professionals.

Each year, more than 1,000 Colorado lawyers and judges volunteer their time and expertise as speakers, authors, editors and advisors to help CBA-CLE fulfill its mission to serve the needs of the Colorado legal community. Without the dedicated support of the thousands of Colorado lawyers and judges who have generously donated their time and expertise as authors, editors, speakers and advisors over the years, CBA-CLE would be unable to fulfill its mission.

CBA-CLE is financially self-sustaining. Revenues are derived from course tuition, sales of publications, audio and video home studies, and web-based trainings. These revenues are, in turn, used for additional course and book development. CBA-CLE is committed to provide educational opportunities in all fields of law, rather than focus exclusively on the profitable topics. Profit-generating projects sustain projects that cannot be self-supporting. CBA-CLE’s goal is to meet expenses for overall operations while implementing as many cost-saving measures as possible, consistent with maintaining program quality.

The DBA, CBA, their sections and committees, co-sponsor many of their programs with CBA-CLE.

The body that oversees the process of accrediting all continuing legal education programs for CLE credit, and monitoring CLE compliance for all licensed Colorado attorneys, is the Supreme Court Board of Continuing Legal and Judicial Education. The Supreme Court Board is located at 1300 Broadway, Ste. 500, Denver, CO 80203, telephone (303) 928-7771.

PUBLICATIONS:

Colorado Bar Association CLE publishes over 60 handbooks and practice manuals in various areas of the law. Our publications are authoritative because they are written by practicing attorneys and sitting judges, and they are edited and cite-checked by experienced legal editors. Most of our books also undergo a peer review by other authorities in the field. CLE books are practitioner-oriented as well, because they include essential forms, helpful checklists, organizational tabs, a subject index, tables of authorities, practice tips, and sample language to save you time and make your services more economical. Finally, our books are sturdy, handsome, and well-made. They’ll look great on your bookshelf and provide years of useful service.

CLE Books are supplemented annually, or as needed. If you own any of our books, you may sign up for Automatic Supplementation. Then, when we publish a new supplement to your book, we will send it to you at a discount as soon as the supplement is available. Moreover, if you purchase a book and we publish a supplement or new edition within 90 days, we will provide with you a copy of the supplement or new edition, free of charge.

We continue to add new titles to our list of publications. Any Colorado lawyer or other qualified person interested in volunteering as an author, editor, or reviewer who can produce a quality manuscript in a reasonable amount of time is encouraged to contact us. We are particularly interested in finding lawyers with experience in legal publishing, law review editing, or judicial clerkships, and 10 or more years of subject-matter experience to serve as managing editors of multiple-author books, or to author a single-topic book. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Dan Sweetser, CLE Executive Director by e-mail at [email protected].

PRO BONO TRAINING: The CBA-CLE Board of Directors has committed to furnish affordable training for attorneys who volunteer to provide Pro Bono services. Registrants may attend these courses for a nominal charge, if they undertake at least one pro bono case in the area that is the subject of the program. Recent programs have been offered in family law, immigration, disability law and elder law.
