- Examination of Colorado Appellate Court case law update for the year 2016, including: a line of Colorado Supreme Court decisions clarifying the application of the burden of proof imposed by the “firefighter cancer presumption statute” (CRS 8-41-209);
- Analysis of a Colorado Supreme Court ruling involving the extent of an insurer’s obligation to notify of coverage loss and the impact upon workers’ compensation liability in the context of statutory employers;
- Evaluation of Colorado Appeals Court decisions involving issues covering offsets for out-of-state workers’ compensation benefits, jurisdictional issues with out-of-state injuries, and reopening of full and final settlements.
- Legislative updates including changes to the Workers’ Compensation Rules of Procedure and new legislation pending in workers’ compensation and related fields.

About the Speakers:
MATTHEW BOATWRIGHT, ESQ. is an associate attorney with the law firm of Lee + Kinder, LLC, in Denver, practicing workers’ compensation law. Mr. Boatwright graduated in 2006 from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He attended Louisiana State University Law Center where he received a Juris Doctor degree and a Graduate Degree in Civil Law in 2010. Mr. Boatwright is admitted to practice law in both Louisiana and Colorado.
JESSICA MELSON, ESQ. is an associate with the law firm of Lee + Kinder, LLC, and practices in the area of workers’ compensation defense. Ms. Melson has successfully defended claims involving compensability, limiting average weekly wage (AWW) exclusion of bonuses for AWW, conversion, and medical benefits. She received her bachelor’s degree from Saint Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. When not working, Ms. Melson enjoys spending time with her family, and the outdoors, along with watching her two boys play football, basketball, and lacrosse.
