Engineering and Water Practice Under the "New" Water Court Rules: From All Perspectives

October 2014

Engineering and Water Practice Under the "New" Water Court Rules:  From All Perspectives

A Series of Courses Sponsored by the Colorado Supreme Court and the Colorado Bar Association

On August 1, 2008, the Water Court Committee of the Colorado Supreme Court presented its report to the Chief Justice, the Governor, and the Colorado General Assembly. Among its recommendations, the Committee called for a comprehensive ongoing educational program for attorneys, expert witnesses, judges, referees, water clerks, and other professionals who plan to participate in water court proceedings. The purpose of this educational program is to elevate the quality of water court practice and promote timely, fair and effective resolution of water court cases.

Hence, a training program has been developed and organized into three disciplines of study, each with its own series of courses as follows.
The Water Law and Administration Program Series
The Technical and Engineering Program Series
The Geographical Divisions Program Series

Program Description

This course is part of both the water law and administration, and technical and engineering series of programs. Two in One! This particular course takes a deep dive into expert meetings and water court rule changes. It then wraps up with a discussion of Colorado River Instream Flow Decrees, settlement, and the impact of expert meetings and the "new" rules. If you are an attorney, engineer, expert witness, judge, referee, water clerk, water resources manager or other professional who works in the area of water rights and participates in water court proceedings, this course is for you.

The distinguished faculty is comprised of experienced engineers, judges, water referees, water law attorneys, officials, and administrators who have in-depth knowledge of expert meetings, the "new" water court rules and innovative consent decrees.
