Program Description:
There are many sources of federal law entitling employees to leave for family, medical, disability, military service and other reasons. These statutes overlap in part but cover different employers and employees, and carry with them different entitlements. Understanding and administering the growing number of employee leave entitlements can be a daunting task for employers, who often look to outside counsel for guidance. This program will provide you with a practical guide to the sources of federal employee leave law, covered employees and qualifying circumstances, how leave can and should be incorporated into employer policies and handbooks, and tips for avoiding liability.

Faculty:
Kenneth M. Willner is a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Paul Hastings, LLP, and chair of the office's employment law practice. He represents employers in all aspects of employment law and litigation including wrongful discharge, discrimination, sexual harassment, disability discrimination, class actions, and individual cases in federal and state courts and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. Mr. Willner received his B.A., with distinction, from the University of Virginia, and his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.
Chris M. Mason is partner in the Phoenix office of Polsinelli LLP, where he represents employers in employment and labor litigation in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. His practice encompasses all facets of labor and employment law including restrictive covenants, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, personnel policies, reductions in force, and drug and alcohol testing. Mr. Mason received his B.A. from the University of California-Davis and his J.D. from the University of California-Los Angeles School of Law.
