To Paraphrase Shakespeare: First Thing We Do, Let's Kill all the Solo/Small Firm Lawyers!
Envisioning a Future We Can Predict by Inventing It Ourselves

In Partnership with the Colorado Bar Association Solo/Small Firm Section

Program Description

We're all familiar with the quote from the Bard (altered slightly) and Barb examines the "big picture" for solo/small firm types and asking: is there a real future for us? The impacts of changing technology in the new media age, coupled with demands from clients who want more for less put stress on how we market, deliver services and manage our solo small firm practices. How can we use these same forces to our benefit? This program is about looking at opportunities and envisioning a future that we can predict by inventing it ourselves.

Meet Your Presenter

Barb Cashman, Esq., was admitted to practice in Colorado in 1989, and has been a solo practitioner focused on estate and life planning, elder law and mediation, probate and estate administration since opening her own law office in 2008. Prior to becoming a solo, she spent the majority of her twenty-two year legal career in federal court, and also stayed at home for a few years to raise her kids. Barb values her client relationships and strives to honor and incorporate the human and compassionate face of law practice in counseling and representing her clients, and this is also true for her approach to mediation. Formerly a "boomer sandwich" (three teenage sons and octogenarian parents until 2011), this gives Barb the life experience that informs the counseling she does with her clients. Barb offers a range of estate and elder law services that includes assisting clients with identifying, planning, negotiating and strategizing to get to the desired result. She does estate planning along with estate and trust administration because she thinks it is important to have a feel for how planning documents actually work. Although she is a mediator and promotes the use of conflict resolution, if a dispute worsens and requires litigation, she will often provide representation in the litigation.
