Program Description

When a problem arises in the title to real property, a “quiet title” action may be needed to resolve the problem and to create certainty in the ownership interests in the property.

Join our expert faculty as they take you through the quiet title process in Colorado!  You will learn not only the mechanics of the quiet title lawsuit, you will also learn the more advanced issues you should watch out for when handling a quiet title lawsuit.  From service of process and identification of the parties, to the best ways to defend the quiet title action, to thorny issues such as lis pendens and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, you will get the basic and advanced instruction you need to jump-start your quiet title skills!

One of the positive aspects of a recent, well-publicized Colorado state court lawsuit concerning adverse possession is that the media coverage of the lawsuit has raised awareness of the need for legal skill in quiet title actions. This is because a claim of adverse possession generally requires a quiet title action to resolve the dispute. Our faculty will devote extensive time covering adverse possession issues, including a thorough discussion of Colorado's new adverse possession legislation.

In addition, unlike other lawsuits, quiet title actions often require expertise in researching actual land uses that occurred decades in the past. Our instructors will teach you the techniques needed to research this old, yet critical, information.

Our faculty is led by Geoffrey P. Anderson, Esq. Mr. Anderson, a member of the Colorado Bar Association's Real Estate Law section executive council, is a veteran real estate attorney with over 22 years of experience. Mr. Anderson is a noted expert on quiet title actions and the author of recently published, comprehensive book on quiet title actions in Colorado.

The program includes a complimentary buffet-style lunch for all attendees.
