When and Why Using Forensic Accountants Makes Sense in Trust and Estate Litigation

Co-sponsored by the CBA Trust & Estate Section

Program Description:

Trust and estate litigation is full of emotion among family members … but tempers rise when it comes to the monetary issues.  So often the trust or estate is left in control of one of the beneficiaries, which causes the biggest question after several years: “Where is the money?” Litigation is expensive, but getting a forensic accountant involved early in the process could alleviate the overall cost to the estate, trust or its beneficiaries. Forensic accountants not only “follow the money,” but they can see patterns of dissipations that close the gaps of tracing the funds. Ms. Betzer will discuss the benefits of hiring forensic accountants as experts in piecing together the financial picture, determining the economic losses and explaining the accounting process to the courts.
