Changes, Choices, Challenges: Advising Clients About LTC Insurance
CBA-CLE Connect Program
Program Description:
Advising clients on proactive planning for long-term care requires knowledge of the myriad insurance solutions available today. The LTC insurance industry is going through significant changes including carriers entering and exiting the market, sizeable rate increases on in-force policies, re-pricing current coverage offerings, new gender-based premiums, the advent of the Colorado Partnership program and more. While not new to the scene, alternative solutions such as hybrid policies combining life insurance or annuities with long-term care insurance, short-term care coverage, critical illness policies, and life insurance with accelerated death benefit riders are rapidly gaining popularity. Elder law and estate planning attorneys should be aware of the pros and cons of the various products offered in the marketplace today in order to properly counsel clients.
Topics to be discussed include:
-The past, present and future state of the traditional LTC insurance industry
-How to counsel clients with existing policies - especially when the premiums go up
-The Colorado Partnership Program and its asset disregard from Medicaid spend-down
-The pros and cons of using life insurance and annuities with LTC riders to fund care needs
-Case studies and best practices for traditional and non-traditional couples, affluent and non-affluent clients, the self-employed, those with health concerns and more
Presented by Aaron R. Eisenach, LTCP, CLTC
