The Case Law Update includes: a trio of decisions supporting Judicial Toolbox sanctions on conservators, financial institutions and personal representatives; the important Sandstead decision giving guidance on the enforcement of no-contest clauses, probate court jurisdiction over non-probate transfers, and implied trusts; and a variety of other cases including property taxes for QPRTs, and personal service requirements in guardianship cases.
 
The Legislative Update will discuss important 2018 legislative changes affecting Trust & Estate practice, including an update on bills where the Colorado Bar Association took action.

Jamie Roth, Esq.

Jamie uses twenty years of legal experience to craft effective and creative solutions for her clients and their families. She enjoys spending time with clients to create a custom estate plan tailored to protect families, businesses, farms and ranches, and most importantly - each client's independence and dignity. Jamie is a battle-tested advocate in the courtroom, and helps families navigate probate and conservatorship/guardianship proceedings with patience and kindness. Jamie brings compassion and warmth to difficult decisions and situations.
 
Jamie holds an advanced degree in tax law from the top-rated law school in the country, and remains committed to staying on top of changes in the law through her involvement with the Trust & Estate, Elder Law, and Taxation sections of the Colorado Bar Association. Jamie lectures regularly at continuing legal education courses to help other attorneys hone their skills.
 
Jamie is a third generation Colorado native. She moved to the western slope in 2000. She and her husband live outside of New Castle, Colorado. Jamie enjoys hiking with her dogs, gardening, and raising their small flock of chickens.
 
Jeremy Schupbach, Director of Legislative Relations

Jeremy Schupbach is the Director of Legislative Relations for the Colorado Bar Association. He has more than 14 years of lobbying experience, working directly with the Colorado Legislature.  Jeremy's responsibilities include working with the sections and members of the bar to develop and promote the association's legislative strategy and to direct the lobbying efforts of the Colorado Bar Association. His experience at the capitol has given him expertise in coordinating and fostering communications between an organization, legislators on both sides of the aisle, state departments, and stakeholders, resulting in successful legislation, excellent networks and opportunities for strategic partnerships.
 
Jeremy has helped to pass several important pieces of legislation with topics as diverse as guardianship, judicial performance, real estate transactions, trust law and probate.  He actively listens to stakeholders and constituents to find win-win solutions and create innovative strategies for solving problems.
 
Jeremy earned his Master's Degree in Public Policy from the University of Minnesota, and his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University.  Before coming to the Colorado Bar Association, Jeremy represented an association of Medicaid providers serving the needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
