Program Description
Within the legal profession, and even more so for attorneys who practice in the estate planning, elder law, and probate areas, the potential need for Medicaid in the future for our clients creeps into many cases. This program will help practitioners understand the many potential landmines Medicaid may create in seemingly routine matters. In the area of Medicaid it is just as important for attorneys to know what not to do, as many transactions can potentially impact their clients years later. The following areas will be covered:
- Rules for Medicaid Long Term Care eligibility
- Spousal protections
- Prior transfers and eligibility

Tammy Conover is an attorney with the Denver law firm Steenrod, Schwartz & McMinimee, LLC. She has limited her practice to the areas of elder law, specifically focusing on conservatorship and guardianship appointments, probate and trust administration, special needs planning, and Medicaid qualification and planning. Ms. Conover is active in many local and national associations, serving as the Co-Chair of the Second Annual Elder Law Retreat and the Treasurer of the Executive Counsel of the Colorado Bar Association Elder Law Section. She is a frequent lecturer in the areas of Medicaid, estate planning, guardianship and conservatorship, and other elder law topics for numerous professional and community organizations.
