Initial Client Interview and Opening an Estate
This nuts and bolts session will discuss: interviewing the client and the decedent's family to obtain the information to open and process an estate; the roles of the client, attorney and paralegal; resources available to the grieving family; and identifying family conflict.

Real Estate Matters
A survey of real estate issues you might encounter in estate administration cases, including: how to complete the personal representative's deed; titling problems; and conveyances to and from a trust.

This session will walk you through the creditor claim process, including: presentation of claims; notice and response deadlines; who should get actual notice; disallowing claims; payment of claims in insolvent estates; and Medicaid estate recovery.

This session will provide an overview of the administration process for both probate and trust estates, emphasizing: formal and informal opening of the estate; distinguishing between probate and nonprobate assets; notice; the inventory; and use of checklists. Relevant JDF forms will be reviewed.

A review of: the augmented estate and elective share rights of the surviving spouse; the statutes governing a pretermitted spouse or child; and the exempt property and family allowances.
