Webcast Bringing Legal History to Life

Bringing Legal History to Life

Program Description:

Do you have an interest in legal history? Have you ever been inspired or fascinated by a historic case or trial, and wished you could bring it to life through an article, a book, or a screenplay? This program will discuss the nuts and bolts of researching, writing, and publishing authentic legal history. It will show you how to breathe life into the real human stories buried beneath the verbiage of old case decisions. After discussing the basics, we will trace the creative process behind turning one 1893 Colorado Supreme Court  opinion, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Co. v. Headland, into an article featured in an award-nominated book, a power-point presentation presented to an Inns of Court group, and a YouTube video.

        This program covers:
  • Topic development.
  • Contextualizing your story.
  • Building your narrative.
  • Tying up loose ends.
  • Marketing your story, and working with editors.

Program cost includes a signed copy of the book Steam, Steel & Statutes: True Tales from Colorado Legal History! This book was a 2011 Colorado Book Award Finalist. (We will mail the book to webcast attendees.)

Presented by Frank Gibbard, Esq.
