The winner will receive a CLE Elite Pass for 1 year (a value of $1,295 for members/$1,695 for non-members) simply by attending live.

Lawyers as Public Citizens: Building Your Toolbox for This Moment
This session will explore the many ways lawyers can act as public citizens and respond meaningfully to threats to rights, due process, and democratic values. Attendees will learn about practical tools lawyers can use in their communities, including serving as legal observers, conducting Know Your Rights presentations, understanding the legal issues surrounding immigration enforcement activity and raids, and engaging in community-based response efforts – all while staying grounded in professional responsibility. This session will also address how to navigate these roles ethically and in compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct.
This session is intended to provide practical guidance for attorneys looking to support their communities in responsible, effective, and ethically sound ways.

Defending Protestors in Criminal and Civil Court
As protests increase, so too does the likelihood that community members will face criminal charges or civil rights violations arising from protest activity. This session will provide a primer for attorneys interested in representing protestors in criminal matters, including common protest-related charges, key legal and factual issues, early representation considerations, and advocacy strategies. The program will also examine how criminal defense work may intersect with later civil representation when an individual’s constitutional or civil rights have been violated by law enforcement or other government actors.
This session is designed to help attorneys understand the landscape of protest defense and identify ways to step into this work when people may not qualify for the public defender or court-appointed counsel.

Rendition Resistance: Habeas Corpus Strategies for Release from ICE Jail
As immigration detention expands, the need for attorneys prepared to challenge unlawful detention through habeas actions will continue to grow. This session is designed to help attorneys feel more prepared to take on an immigration habeas case by introducing the legal framework, common issues that arise in detention challenges, procedural considerations, and practical steps for getting started. Whether attendees are new to immigration-related litigation or looking to expand their pro bono practice, this session will provide a foundation for understanding how habeas representation can serve as a critical tool in protecting liberty and due process.
This program is especially geared toward attorneys who want an entry point into this urgent and increasing area of need.

Self-Care and Community Care in Times of Crisis
Advocacy in times of crisis can be deeply fulfilling, but it can also be exhausting, especially for attorneys engaged in high-stakes, emotionally demanding, or movement-centered work. How do we replenish our personal, emotional, and psychological reserves? How do we replenish our community's capacity to resist and dismantle harmful systems? This session will support attendees in learning more about radical self-care and identifying personal self-care practices. This session will also highlight strategies for interpersonal and community empowerment that individuals can engage in beyond the courtroom and legal practice, such as mutual aid and divestment.
Attend this session if you desire more tools and strategies for keeping the work going even in times of crisis.
