Program Description:
 
Perfect for new attorneys focusing their practice on criminal law, or for civil attorneys who want a primer on how prior bad acts can be used in civil cases, this CLE will address:
 
● The importance of character evidence;
● How to best argue that certain facts satisfy the four-part test set forth in People v. Spoto, 795 P.2d 1314 (Colo. 1990);
● Use of the Doctrine of Chances to establish that other acts are admissible during trial;

Laura Trask Schneider, Esq. focuses her practice on insurance defense litigation, including first- and third-party liability claims, construction defect claims, and coverage analysis, in which she reviews and analyzes coverage issues under a wide variety of insurance policies and form, including commercial general liability, automobile, and other specialty policies. She has advised clients and analyzed matters related to allocation of indemnity and defense costs among multiply triggered policies, and has been involved in bringing and defending declaratory judgment actions with respect to the same. Ms. Schneider has also defended carriers in first-party bad faith claims and claims under the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. She is experienced in all aspects of litigation, including motions practice, discovery, settlement negotiations, trials, and appeals. Ms. Schneider also has experience in the defense of predatory lending and will contests. She is admitted to practice in the State of Colorado and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
 
Ms. Schneider received a B.S. in psychology and sociology from Colorado State University in 1989, and a J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law in 1993. She is currently the president of the Arapahoe County Bar Association and she is active in the Colorado Bar Association and Colorado Defense Lawyers Association.
