Cross Border Data Transfers: Be Compliant with the GDPR

Co-sponsored by the International Transactions Subsection of the CBA Business Law Section

Program Description:

Attend this program to prepare yourself and your clients for new requirements regarding data transfers from the European Union to the U.S.  Gain insights on how to comply with, and how to manage commercial and technological risks, under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), effective May 25, 2018. Make certain your data transfers comply with some of the most stringent data protection laws in the world, and protect yourself from significant fines.
Your expert presenter, Jennifer Mullins, General Counsel for a $40 million global payroll provider, has a front row seat on the world stage of cross border transfers, and will get you up to speed on transfers from the E.U. to the U.S. Her discussion will start with a brief summary of legitimate purposes for collecting and processing data, and then dive into available cross border data transfer vehicles. Issues of consent, adequacy, standard contractual clauses, binding corporate rules and privacy shield will be addressed. She will also briefly discuss potential new transfer methods under the GDPR.
