Ever-expanding Enforcement- I-9 Compliance and Employer Sanctions - LIVE IN DENVER
Program Description:
In the last few years the Department of Homeland Security has increased its activities in the areas of I-9 enforcement and employer sanctions. A number of employers have been charged criminally. We will review the rules regarding each employer's obligation to complete, maintain and purge Forms I-9, as well as I-9 audits, and the consequences to employers for failing to meet these obligations.

Nancy B. Elkind, Esq.

Nancy Elkind is a founding partner of Elkind Alterman Harston PC. She has practiced immigration law for 30 years, and has provided counsel and guidance to hundreds of immigrant families and individuals, as well as to employers that are seeking to hire the “best and the brightest.” Nancy received her law degree from the University of Denver, after completing a master's in political science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has been active locally and nationally in the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Nancy is currently chair of the Colorado Lawyers Committee, an organization that does high-impact pro bono work, while advocating, negotiating, and litigating for children, the poor, and other disadvantaged groups. She was named “Outstanding Woman in Business 2004” by the The Denver Business Journal, has been honored several times as a Colorado Super Lawyer™, and was named one of the “Top 25 Women Lawyers in Colorado” in 2007 and 2008. She has been cited in the publication The Best Lawyers in America™ for 20 years.
David A. Harston, Esq.

David Harston is a partner at Elkind Alterman Harston PC and has been practicing immigration law exclusively, including business, family, asylum, and deportation defense, since 1999. He has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 1999, served on the AILA Colorado Chapter's Executive Committee from 2004 to 2009, and was the chapter chair for AILA Colorado from 2007-2008. David is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and served on the Executive Council for the Immigration Law Section (2009-2011) and as section chair (2009-2010). He writes and speaks on immigration law issues on a regular basis. David graduated from the University of Denver with a law degree and a master's degree in international studies. He received a Public Interest Law Group Grant to clerk at the Center for Human Rights Advocacy in Boulder. David also interned in the Human Rights Program at the Carter Center in Atlanta, founded by former President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
