Program Description:
Examining mental health experts can be confusing, even daunting. This course offers a practical framework with which to conduct effective examinations of mental health experts and to organize legal arguments based on the expert testimony. Although the course is oriented to family lawyers, any lawyer who deals with mental health experts will benefit from this course.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
- IDENTIFY the key mindset with which to approach the examination of mental health experts
- UNDERSTAND what reliable testimony really means
- LEARN the PLAN Model, a practical four-step framework based in caselaw and in psychology's literature and ethics, to examine mental health experts, their work, and their testimony
- APPLY the PLAN Model to specific examination issues
