Legal Writing Clinic for Professionals

June 2006

Legal Writing Clinic for Professionals

Any attorney who writes memos, letters, briefs or any other document containing legal analysis will benefit from this Clinic.  All experience levels are welcome.  This program is designed to reinforce each individual's writing strengths and to identify areas for improvement.

To maximize the benefit and value of the Clinic, each participant should bring a written product such as a brief, memo, client letter, demand letter, settlement letter or petition for certiorari. Throughout the Clinic, with instructor guidance, participants will analyze, edit, and review their own writings.  All writings will be strictly confidential and will be shared with the group by the participant only if the participant desires.

Different from other legal writing seminars, the instructors present organizational tools and techniques to get started and to develop the legal analysis.  The instructors also cover ethical considerations in legal writing and useful style, grammar and editing suggestions and tips.

The Faculty:

Andrea Bloom and Tanya Bartholomew, currently professors of legal writing and research at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, have combined experience of 18 years teaching legal writing and 24 years in private law practice.
