The 2022 institute (with both in-person and virtual registration options) has a dynamic and action-packed agenda that will enhance your practice in this ever-changing landscape of family law.
Do you have a handle on the ethical rules related to litigation holds, obtaining, requesting and storing electronically stored information (ESI) such as text messages and Slack messages? Join us for a deep dive into the world of ESI to learn how ESI impacts your clients and your practice. You will also hear from experts in the field, the bar, and on the bench with outside-the-box ideas for even the most difficult APR cases, including how and when to use a CLR, and how to prove emotional endangerment. You will also sharpen your trial presentation skills with a deep-dive into the hearsay rules, and you will be treated to, dare we say, a rowdy modern FLI version of the Dating Game? We have some very special guests lined up, including Chief Justice Boatright and Jason St. Julien - you won’t want to miss the chance to gather with your peers, and to learn from and celebrate one another!

Cancellations: If you are unable to attend, please notify CBA-CLE by August 10, 2022, and we will gladly refund your tuition in full or apply your tuition to the webinar or home study. Cancellations after August 10, 2022, will be refunded less a $150 cancellation fee.

All reservations will require a credit card guarantee, and a deposit equal to one night of lodging is due at time of booking. The balance is due at check-in. Reservations cancelled after August 3, 2022 will forfeit the deposit equal to one night’s room and tax. Resort fee excluded for guests in our room block, but complimentary internet will be provided in guests rooms. Guest may opt to purchase a discounted resort fee ($20/day) at check in. Valet fee is $20 per vehicle per night.

CBA Family Law Section Scholarship Application
The Family Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association has six full scholarships to the 2022 Family Law Institute, which will be awarded to eligible applicants, via a drawing.
If you are interested and qualify, please complete the application form linked below by June 30, 2022. If selected, the Family Law Section will reimburse you for the full registration fee.

Home studies will be available approximately 2-3 weeks following the live program.
For your own safety, the safety of others, and in an effort to provide everyone with the most rewarding in-person meeting and event experiences possible, we request that you attend a CBA, DBA, or CLE meeting or event only if you have been fully vaccinated. A View from the Bench: Ethical and Equitable Practices When One Party is Self-Represented
Across Colorado, domestic relations courtrooms see the highest number of self-represented litigants. This reality can create tensions between attorneys and presiding judicial officers as they work to maintain ethical obligations. In addition, pursuant to Colorado Code of Judicial Conduct 2.6, judicial officers must ensure equitable access to justice for all parties. These types of cases are further complicated by virtual hearings, the emotions that are ever-present in family law matters, and the implicit biases everyone brings to the courtroom.
Participants will learn:
- The ethical rules to consider when one party is self-represented
- How attorneys and judicial officers can maintain their ethical obligations when one party is self-represented
- Types of implicit biases pro se litigants may face
- How judicial officers and counsel can inclusively hold themselves accountable to minimize the impact of implicit bias in a courtroom
