Think Ahead and Put “It” in Writing! – Best Practices for Client-Lawyer Fee Agreements
Appropriately defining the business relationship between a client and a lawyer is critical to any lawyer’s practice. A fee agreement stands to impact everything from whether a client-lawyer relationship exists and, if so, the scope of work, to framing how the client views “success.” But, crafting a fee agreement tailored to any given client-lawyer relationship can also trigger myriad ethical considerations. This session will provide you with a practical, step-by-step guide on what you should be thinking about at the outset of the relationship with a potential client and how to craft a fee agreement that matches the proposed business relationship, while also complying with the Rules of Professional Conduct (including CRPC 1.5, 1.7, 1.8, and 1.16) and Colorado law.
