2007 Hot Topics in Employment Law

November 2007

2007 Hot Topics in Employment  Law

Co-sponsored by the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association

Are you a seasoned employment law practitioner?  In-house counsel?  Human resources professional?  Keep your employment law skills up-to-date by attending the 2007 Hot Topics in Employment Law program!

Our program includes an extended morning session on non-compete agreements and other restrictions on employee competition.  Employees move from employer to employer far more frequently than in the past.  Learn how to draft non-compete and other competition restricting agreements that are fair and enforceable.  If you still end up in court with a former employee or employer, learn how to litigate these agreements!

The afternoon contains three great sessions relating to Federal Government employee employment law!

Complaints of discrimination by Federal Government employees are a large, and often overlooked, aspect of discrimination law. Learn from our experienced Federal employment law faculty what you need to know to handle these cases.

If you handle a Federal employee discrimination case, you will need to know how to competently present your case before an EEOC administrative judge.  The administrative hearing, although an informal proceeding, offers the advocate the opportunity to obtain for his⁄her client the same relief that would be available if the case were filed in federal court.  Exhaustive preparation is essential for a successful outcome.  Learn directly from a seasoned EEOC Administrative Judge how to be successful at this hearing!

Finally, the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act, requires employers to re-employ and accommodate military reservist employees who are called to serve on active duty in the military.  USERRA also affects employee vacation, sick leave, seniority, and other benefits.  In addition, there are important exceptions to USERRA that need to be understood.

With many military reservists called to active duty in Iraq and elsewhere, this is a very timely and important issue for employers.  Find out what the rules are and what employers must do (and not do) to comply!
Mark your calendar today for this great program!
