Sexual Misconduct in K-12 and Post-Secondary Schools

Novemember 2018

Sexual Misconduct in K-12 and Post-Secondary Schools: A Legal Overview of the Complex Issues and Legal Obligations Under Title IX, the Clery Act, and State Law

Program Description

In 1972, Title IX, which prohibits federally funded educational institutions from discriminating against students or employees based on sex, was enacted. Today, 46 years later, news broadcasts often feature stories of sexual misconduct investigations, criminal prosecutions, and failures to report.

This program brings Title IX and related state and federal laws to life, for lawyers and other professionals representing a range of stakeholders - including educational institutions at every level, students, parents, school officials, and the state and federal government.

This survey course is intended for a broad range of participants - from experienced practitioners who regularly practice in this area, to non-lawyers who are expected to understand the legal framework in which they work (including Title IX coordinators and leaders of educational institutions), to legislators, to any lawyer who may have an interest in this high-profile and dynamic area of the law (including parents of school-age and college-age students).
