Program Description:

It takes an exceptional kind of lawyer to practice elder law. Perhaps more than many other practice areas, it seems to be an avocation, in part because of the special patience and care representing our elders requires.

At the 2013 Advance Elder Law Institute, Program Co-Chairs Carl Glatstein and Jennifer S. Gormley have put together a faculty of highly experienced elder law professionals for this comprehensive two-day program. The areas of discussion will be both substantive and thought provoking.

Not only will you learn about the newest cases and legislation, you'll find out about the recent changes in Medicaid and what might happen with Obamacare. You'll hear the latest in advance directives, litigating non-probate transfers, the changing law in guardianships and protective proceedings around the country … and much more.

As counsel for the elderly, we have to know how to deal with various types of dementia. You'll hear about dementia from diagnosis to prognosis, and how traumatic brain injury might play a role. Learn the nuances of protecting at-risk adults and the problems that may arise when representing a protected person after adjudication.

Whether your client finds himself in a nursing home, in county court, in mediation, or in the criminal justice system … whether your elder client may be the victim of fraud, abuse or a disability … take advantage of this unique opportunity to join the discussion on protecting the dignity of our elders.
