Join former Executive Clemency Advisory Board members Azra Taslimi and Hannah Seigel Proff as they discuss their decision to publicly disclose the board vote behind the Tina Peters clemency application. After twice and unanimously recommending against clemency based on a comprehensive evaluation, the Board’s guidance was ultimately ignored when Governor Polis granted the request.
Faced with a profound ethical dilemma, Ms. Taslimi and Ms. Proff chose to bring the Board’s decision-making process to light—a choice that resulted in their immediate removal from the Board over alleged confidentiality violations. This presentation will walk attendees through the difficult ethics of deciding when public transparency outweighs administrative confidentiality, and the resulting professional and political fallout of speaking out.
In person attendees will have the opportunity to talk directly with Ms. Taslimi and Ms. Proff after the presentation.
