Program Description:
 
In late September 2019, the US House of Representative passed the SAFE (Secure and Fair Enforcement) Bank Act (“Act”)— a step toward federally insured banks and credit unions working with cannabis shops in states that have legalized marijuana use. Hear from both banking and cannabis experts on the Act’s provisions and potential impacts, the current state of the law regarding cannabis cash and banking, and what happens if the Senate doesn’t pass the Act, or if it is not signed into law.

Meet Your Presenters
 
Christian Sederberg, Esq., is a partner and founding member of Vicente Sederberg LLP. After graduating from the University of Colorado School of Law, Christian focused his practice on representing businesses with a primary focus on real estate, private equity, commercial, and corporate transactions. Since the inception of Colorado's state regulated medical marijuana program, Christian and the firm have provided a wide range of real estate, transactional and regulatory assistance to the marijuana community. Christian was also an integral part of Colorado's Amendment 64 campaign, acting as core volunteer for the campaign, representing the campaign on Governor Hickenlooper's Amendment 64 Implementation Task Force, and leading the campaign's legislative implementation team in the Colorado legislature by coordinating the implementation of the Colorado legislative and regulatory structure related to adult-use marijuana. Christian sat on the executive committee of the Committee for Responsible Regulation, which coordinated the campaign to establish statewide excise and sales taxes on the sale of adult-use marijuana in Colorado.
 
Jenifer Waller, Colorado Bankers Association, was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2017 after holding the position of Senior Vice President since 1999. She started in community banking in Southern Colorado in 1985 and attended the Western States School of Banking. Prior to her days at CBA, Waller spent almost five years as a bank examiner for the Colorado Division of Banking. Waller is involved with numerous organizations, serving on the Board of the Colorado Civil Justice League, the Colorado Fraud and Identity Theft Unit and the Colorado Energy Environment District. She has been appointed to several state task forces addressing issues impacting Colorado, including the elder abuse task force and the wildfire task force. Waller enjoys politics and volunteering for campaigns. When she is not working,  she enjoys spending time with her sons Joe and Travis and husband Doug.
