Managing the Deal Process: Legal Project Management and the Future of M&A

January 2015

The M&A Breakfast Series

Managing the Deal Process:  Legal Project Management and the Future of M&A

Co-sponsored by the M&A Subsection of the CBA Business Law Section

Program Description:

Managing the deal process has always been an integral tool to any successful M&A practice. Planning on the other hand, has not been widely used by M&A practitioners - except, perhaps, in the context of an auction process. Whether it's because the client calls at 5pm on Friday, LOI in hand, asking for a fully baked document the next day, or because we hold off on any work until the client wants to pay us to begin working, we rarely have time to effectively plan ahead how the deal negotiation process will unfold. Clients however are increasingly pressuring M&A practitioners for more certainty, more reliability, more efficient pricing, faster turnarounds and higher quality. If we are going to reduce costs, enhance quality and increase the speed with which we deliver our "product", we must find a more efficient means of delivering that product. Join us for this cutting edge presentation as Tom Romer, a founding member of the Legal Project Management Task Force of the M&A Subcommittee of the Business Law Section of the ABA, discusses the tools the Task Force is developing to assist M&A practitioners to more efficiently deliver high quality M&A legal services.
