The Colorado Estate Planning Handbook is directed toward intermediate and advanced level practitioners as a treatise on Colorado law to be used in conjunction with Colorado Estate Planning Forms (Orange Book Forms), also published by CBA-CLE.
The field of estate planning has seen momentous changes since the last supplement to the Colorado Estate Planning Handbook (Orange Book Handbook).
The uncertainty regarding estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax exemptions was largely resolved with the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. ATRA also extended portability of the estate tax exemption.
Finally, the Colorado General Assembly passed the Colorado Civil Union Act and the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in United States v.Windsor extended federal tax benefits to same-sex married couples.
