Blockchain technology and cryptocurrency have been in the headlines a lot in recent years, but many estate planners don't understand key concepts and the far-reaching impact the new technologies have on structured wealth planning. This session will serve as an introduction to ownership and tax issues regarding bitcoin and other cryptoassets, surprising profiles of affluent investors in the asset class, and the needs, concerns, and solutions for clients with significant cryptoasset wealth.

The discussion will include drafting considerations for all levels of planning, an overview of comparative jurisdictions for crypto-related planning, and an introduction to how "planning for crypto" introduces opportunities for highly complex wealth transfer tax planning and family governance conversations.
