Trust & Estate Section CLE Luncheon Series
Program Description
This program is for practitioners beginning their trusts and estates practice as well as experienced trust and estate practitioners. The focus of the program is to provide practitioners with the resources to deal with the real estate issues often encountered in planning a client's estate and advising the personal representative administering a decedent's estate. Practice points are included along with citation to statutes and other resources.

- Statutory deed requirements for the different types of deeds used in real estate transaction
- Resources providing guidance for handling real estate conveyances and title issues encountered in estate planning and administration

- Conveyance of real property by a settlor to his or her trust, and qualifying the trust as an insured under the settlor's title insurance policy

- Required provisions in residential real estate contracts
- Selected real estate issues when real property is owned in joint tenancy

Bruce E. Deacon, Esq., Of Counsel at Norton, Smith & Keane, P.C., has been in private practice in Denver since 1976. His law practice is focused on real estate, estate planning, estate and gift tax, and probate administration. He is a member of the CBA sections for real estate and tax law. As a member of the Trust and Estate Section, for five years Bruce served as the liaison from the Trust and Estate Section to the Real Estate Law Section. He has made presentations on the real estate aspects of estate administration and estate planning at CLE courses, to local bar associations, and as a co-presenter with Elizabeth A. Bryant, Esq., at the Estate Planning Retreat. Also, for several years he has updated the Orange Book Handbook article on real property and provides real estate items for Council Notes published by the Trust and Estate Section. In 2009, the Trust and Estate Section awarded Bruce the R. Sterling Ambler Award for outstanding contribution to the trust and estate practice in the State of Colorado.
