Retirement assets are one of your clients’ most common assets, often one of their most significant assets. Retirement assets are great for clients planning for retirement, but not so great in planning clients’ estates. Planning for retirement assets is unlike planning for other types of assets because retirement assets are subject to their own, unique, complex set of income tax rules.

In this two-part series, on March 5 and April 2, 2024, trust and estate attorneys will cover planning with retirement assets. On March 5, we will discuss the basics of retirement assets, including income tax basics, required minimum distributions during the participant’s life, required minimum distributions after the participant’s death, and the differences between designated beneficiaries for income tax purposes. On April 2, we will address estate planning options for retirement assets, including leaving these types of assets to trusts.

Attending both programs is highly recommended. The first program lays the foundation to understand the concepts in the second program. Click here to register for the April 2 program.

CBA-CLE will email webinar access information to registrants 24-48 hours before the program.

Home studies will be available approximately 2-3 weeks following the live program.

If disability accommodations or special assistance are needed, please contact us at [email protected]. Requests must be made at least two weeks prior to the scheduled program.

The program will be submitted for CLE accreditation in Colorado. If you need to seek accreditation in another state, please review the process and requirements for that individual state. CBA-CLE staff can provide a Uniform Certificate of Attendance, and it is the attendee’s responsibility to complete the accreditation outside of Colorado.
