Walking the Diversity Talk: Making Greater Strides Towards the Elimination of Bias
By now, you are likely familiar with the concept of implicit bias and how it impacts both individuals and organizations in decision-making. However, knowledge of the problem is just the first step. In order to truly "walk the (diversity) talk," we must take definitive strides in the direction of diversity, equity and inclusion. In this engaging webinar, legal humorist Sean Carter will explore a wide range of actionable steps that individuals (and organizations) can take to reduce bias in their decision-making, allowing us all to move one step closer to a more diverse, equitable and inclusive legal profession.
In this program, lawyers will learn how to translate their insights about implicit bias into actionable steps they can take to reduce bias in their own decision-making (and that of the organizations they lead). By examining case studies and the best practices of leading organizations in the legal industry and beyond, lawyers will learn how to:
• Identify (and reduce) their own biases
• Develop greater cultural competency
• Navigate and resolve microaggressions
• Recognize structural impediments to diversity
• Drive organization change

The 2026 Ethy Awards
Each year, Hollywood celebrates the best performances in motion pictures at the Oscars. Well, at the Ethys, we note the worst ethics violations in the legal profession. Humorist Sean Carter will host the festivities and announce the award winners in such categories as:
• The Outlawyer Award (for lawyers who forget that an important part of the word lawyer is “law”)
• Most Creative Billing (for lawyers entering into unreasonable fee arrangements)
• The David Copperfield Award (for lawyers with the “magical” ability to make client funds disappear)
• Best Supporting Actor in a Criminal Activity (for lawyers who cross the line from counselor to co-conspirator)
• The AT&T Award (for lawyers who fail to adequately “reach out” and communicate with clients)
• The Joan Rivers Award (for lawyers who breach confidentiality by “dishing” gossip)
• Least Competent in a Legal Setting (for lawyers who treat competence as an optional accessory)
• Best Use of Deceptive Marketing (for lawyers who attempt to win friends and influence prospects by hook and by mostly crook)
• Worst Love Scene (for lawyers who attempt to mix business with pleasure)
• The Alfred Hitchcock Award (for lawyers who experience the surprise twist of heavy sanctions for seemingly light infractions)
• Most Creative Tale (for lawyers who refuse to let the truth get in the way of a good story)
• The Uncongeniality Award (for lawyers who view civility as incompatible with civil law practice)
• And more!
In the process of recapping some of the most egregious instances of unethical behavior, Mr. Carter will demonstrate how the rest of us can avoid more common ethical violations.
