Why Good Lawyers Do Bad Things - What Social Science and The Business World Says About Ethical Lapses, and How to Prevent Them

In Partnership with the Colorado Bar Association Solo/Small Firm Section

Program Description

The legal press is full of dramatic examples of lawyers engaging in stunningly unethical behavior, leading to suspensions and even disbarment. As lawyers, we share a universal reaction to these tales: “But I would never do something like that.” Yet some among us inevitably will. This CLE will go beyond the cautionary tales to examine reasons lawyers make such career-destroying mistakes—and how to identify warning signs in your own practice.

Christopher Montville, Esq., has a nationwide practice that focuses on legal malpractice defense and complex commercial litigation at both the trial and appellate levels. He has successfully defended law firm clients, including large regional and international firms, against claims of malpractice, negligence, and breach of fiduciary duty relating to complex underlying cases. His strong history of effectively handling complex commercial disputes for large clients informs his awareness of exactly the types of issues law firms and lawyers may face when dealing with professional liability lawsuits. Chris has first- and second-chaired several jury trials, arbitrations, and administrative hearings.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Chris designed and developed financial software systems supporting the international trading and brokerage business for a leading investment bank.
