This program highlights the benefits of diversity on jury deliberations, citing social science studies bearing out those benefits. The program also encourages and trains attorneys to be more mindful of diversity in jury selection and provides tools attorneys can use—primarily fair cross section and Batson challenges—to protect diversity on juries. All of this improves outcomes for the attorneys’ clients by improving the quality of deliberations through diversity, empowers and includes a broader cross section of the population to participate in the justice system in a positive manner through jury service, and helps to eliminate attorneys’ unconscious bias about including diverse groups as jurors. This program also addresses how to remediate the impact of bias and prejudice during jury deliberations, to help the courts provide equal justice, and how to help attorneys provide effective representation for minority clients by rooting out race-based discrimination in deliberations.

The program will be submitted for CLE accreditation in Colorado. If you need to seek accreditation in another state, please review the process and requirements for that individual state. CBA-CLE staff can provide a Uniform Certificate of Attendance, and it is the attendee’s responsibility to complete the accreditation outside of Colorado.
