Frederick B. Skillern

Frederick B. Skillern, Esq., is currently a panelist with JAMS Dispute Resolution Services in Denver, working in mediation, arbitration, and third-party neutral case evaluation, with a focus on business and real estate disputes. Since 1982, after time as a deputy district attorney, his law practice focused on real estate litigation in courts across the state, with time out for service as a district court judge in Colorado's Eighteenth Judicial District from 2000 through 2002. He has represented clients in contested foreclosure cases across the state and before the Colorado Supreme Court. In addition, Fred served as an expert witness in cases dealing with real estate, professional responsibility, and attorney fees, and as a court-appointed commissioner in partition and eminent domain cases. Fred enjoys speaking at continuing legal education seminars, and has been an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law since 2006. In 2014, Fred was honored to receive the Colorado Bar Association CLE Richard N. Doyle Award of Excellence. He has been an active member and supporter of the Real Estate Section Council of the Colorado Bar Association, serving as chair of the Real Estate Section in 2005-06. Fred was a member of the Colorado Supreme Court Civil Rules Committee from 1987 to 2015, and worked on every revision to Rule 120 during the last 30 years. He is the author and continuing editor of the chapters on the law of future interests (Chapter 72) and civil judgment execution sales (Chapter 40) in West's Colorado Methods of Practice, and is a proud alumnus of the CBA's Title Standards Committee. Fred is a graduate of Dartmouth College, and received his law degree at the University of Colorado.
