Jon F. Sands

Jon F. Sands received a B.S. from the University of Colorado and a J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law (1980). Mr. Sands practiced civil trial work for nearly 43 years before joining JAMS as a mediator and arbitrator. He has lead trial counsel in numerous jury and bench trials throughout Colorado, and also teaches courses on insurance and real estate litigation and trial presentation. He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and is an ABOTA Associate member. He also has an extensive appellate practice history. He has served on CBA committees including the Litigation Section Council and the Colorado State Title Standards Committee. He writes and edits the Opening Statements chapter in the Colorado Courtroom Handbook for Civil Trials and has published articles in The Colorado Lawyer. He has taught many continuing education courses and has written materials for use in such courses. Mr. Sands has been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for the years 2007 through 2022 and has been included in the U.S. News and World Report Best Lawyers edition. He was selected as Best Lawyers Defense Lawyer of the Year for 2012. He was selected by his peers as one of the “Top 10” lawyers in Colorado for 2016; “Top 50” trial lawyers in Colorado for 2010; and one of the “Top 100” for years 2014-2022. Mr. Sands served on the board of directors of the Denver Dumb Friends League from 1986-1999 (president from 1988-1990); is past board member and president of the Animal Assistance Foundation, a $30 million foundation headquartered in Denver; and former member of the board of directors of the Colorado Humane Society.
