Colorado Court of AppealsUpon graduating from Harvard Law School in 1975, Judge David Richman served as law clerk to Judge William Holloway, Jr., Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, from August 1975 through August 1976. In August 1976, he became a staff attorney in the Denver Regional Office of the Federal Trade Commission. In February 1978, he joined the Denver law firm of Coghill Goodspeed & Horowitz as an associate and, in 1980, became a shareholder in the successor firm, Coghill & Goodspeed, P.C.
Upon the dissolution of the firm, he moved to an "of counsel" position with Burns, Figa & Will, P.C., Englewood, Colorado. His work in private practice consisted solely of litigation and litigation-related matters, primarily commercial business litigation, with occasional involvement in criminal matters, including representation of clients before grand juries.
When Phillip S. Figa was appointed to the federal bench in November 2003, he moved with Judge Figa to the U.S. District Court and served as Judge Figa's career law clerk until the judge unfortunately passed away on January 5, 2008. He continued to serve as clerk for the federal judges until July 2008, when he was appointed by Governor Ritter to the Colorado Court of Appeals.
Judge Richman served continuously on the court of appeals from July 2008 until November 2022. Following his age-related mandatory retirement, Judge Richman became a senior judge on the court in January 2023 and continues to serve in that capacity.
