Hansa R. Patel
The Center for Understanding in Conflict andHansa R. Patel is a mediator, attorney, conflict resolution trainer, and mindfulness instructor whose practice blends mindfulness, conflict resolution skills, and an equity lens - grounded in the belief that how we understand one another is at the heart of our shared humanity. Hansa teaches the Understanding-Based Model at the Center for Understanding in Conflict, including its 40-hour foundational training and the Self-Reflection for Conflict Professionals intensive. She has had the privilege of learning and teaching alongside the model's co-founder, Gary Friedman, whose work on looping forms the heart of today's session. She is a certified mindfulness teacher and has also studied whole systemic transformation, bringing a compassionate and equity-centered lens to all of her conflict resolution work. As a former juvenile dependency attorney, she spent over a decade representing children and families in some of the most fractured and high-stakes conflicts imaginable - an experience that grounds her conviction that mutual understanding, not agreement, is often what people need most. That same conviction fuels her passion for training youth in restorative justice programs and presenting at youth court conferences, believing that the earlier we teach understanding, the more we restore our shared humanity.
