Ben Bloom, Ph.D., is Founder & CTO of Atom Computing, a company building highly scalable, gate-based quantum computers with atomic arrays of optically-trapped neutral atoms, empowering researchers and companies to achieve unprecedented breakthroughs. As CTO Ben leads the technical innovations and engineering teams to develop and execute the roadmap for scalable quantum computing systems. Ben’s passion for physics and pushing technical boundaries drove him to found Atom Computing in January 2018. During this time, it became clear to him that neutral atom technology was poised to offer the best path for quantum scalability. Ben operated as CEO for more than three years, moving into the CTO role in July 2021 so he could solely focus on making quantum a reality by designing, developing and delivering the company’s quantum computing systems. Ben is an expert at research and development and completed his graduate work on atomic clocks at the University of Colorado. He produced an atomic clock that was arguably one of the most accurate atomic clocks ever constructed. This resulted in multiple publications as well as being featured on NPR, Gizmodo, Slashdot, and other news outlets. After he completed his PhD, Ben worked at Intel on 10nm semiconductor fabrication. Subsequently he joined Rigetti Quantum Computing to work on superconducting qubits, where he was promoted to be in charge of a team of researchers and engineers. Ben holds a Bachelor of Science degree from MIT, a Doctorate of Philosophy of Physics from the University of Colorado, is the co-author on many scientific publications and holds multiple U.S. Patents on Quantum Computation.
