Colorado Department of Human Services Division of Child Welfare, Office of Children, Youth and FamiliesApril Jenkins, MS is the Child Protection and Prevention Manager with the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Child Welfare. April received her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and began her career as a Probation and Parole Officer. April later received her master’s degree in human services and has spent years serving families and children through Family Preservation Services in Alabama and Child Protection Services in El Paso County, Colorado. Since joining the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Child Welfare, April has found joy in serving and supporting counties across Colorado in their child welfare practice. April’s team currently supports all 64 counties across Colorado in child welfare practice, that includes the child abuse and neglect hotline, referrals and assessments, differential response, institutional abuse/neglect, human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, substance-exposed newborns, substance-use disorders, prevention services, Core services and State and Federal Reporting. April serves as a member of the Colorado Child Fatality Review Team and has multiple State Colorado Child Welfare Sub Policy Advisory Committee approved task groups managed within her team. These groups include the Child Protection Task Group, Child Welfare Prevention Task Group, Human Trafficking Task Group, Substance Use Disorder/Substance Exposed Newborn Task Group and the Institutional Abuse Review Team. Other mandated groups managed within the team are the Children’s Justice Act Task group and the Core Services Quarterly. April resides in El Paso County with her husband and 2 dogs. She is the proud mother/grandmother of a son, daughter-in-law and grandson who reside in Pueblo, as well as a daughter who attends CU Boulder.
