Linda Phillips, Esq., recently retired from the practice of law, where she spent over 30 years first as a paralegal and then an attorney, helping form cooperative and employee-owned businesses. She spent the past 7 years working with Jason Wiener PC as Senior of Counsel and owned Phillips Law Offices LLC until this year. Linda is the co-founder, along with Jason Wiener, of Colorado Cooperative Developers. Linda obtained a J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law and her undergraduate degree from Regis University. Linda has represented small to medium-sized businesses, with a strong emphasis on all types of cooperatives, including marketing, purchasing, consumer and worker co-ops. Her work includes cooperative formations, employee ownership conversions, business structural analysis, and general counsel for the cooperative community related to their business enterprises. Linda advised clients about worker cooperative and other business models and tax issues involved with starting a company or converting to an employee-owned entity. Linda helped form and was on the Board of Directors of the Rocky Mountain Employee Ownership Center, a nonprofit that promotes employee-owned business models in Colorado. She assisted the organization’s growth and helped focus its efforts on employee ownership as a viable alternative business model. Linda received the Cathy Stricklin Krendl Lifetime Achievement Award from CoBar in 2022 for her contributions to Colorado business law. She continues to participate in the cooperative and employee-ownership community with writing and speaking engagements to the public and groups being trained by Colorado’s technical assistance providers. Linda is currently a member of the Advisory Board for the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union, Cooperative Development Center.
