Jeffrey R. Pilkington
1st Judicial District Honorable Jeffrey R. Pilkington is a Colorado State District Court Judge for the First Judicial District. He has a mixed docket of criminal, civil, and domestic cases. He has served as the Chief Judge of the District since January 1, 2020, and been an active part of numerous judicial committees. He is currently the Co-Chair of the Colorado Chief Judge Council and leads efforts across the state to improve workplace culture. Before his appointment to the bench in August 2013, he was partner and chair of the trial group at Davis Graham & Stubbs in Denver. As a trial lawyer, he represented clients in courtrooms across the country for nearly 25 years. He handled complex litigation involving products liability, environmental toxic torts, commercial disputes, personal injuries, and other issues in over 40 states. He also he served as national and/or regional coordinating counsel for several companies. He has presented at conferences and meetings across the country on a variety of topics ranging from narrow legal issues to trial strategies and tactics. He has several publications, teaches case management and other court-related matters, and serves on a several judicial and community boards and committees. He has been admitted to practice in New York, Colorado, and the District of Columbia. He grew up in rural Iowa on the family farm. He is a graduate of Drake University and Columbia Law School and clerked for the Honorable Thomas Griesa of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. When away from the courthouse, he enjoys spending time with his family (including his wife, four grown children, and grandchildren), exploring the Colorado outdoors (downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, water skiing, and golf) and is an avid sports fan.
