Honorable Timothy L. Nemechek was in private practice for almost thirty years before becoming an Administrative Law Judge in July 2015. During that time, his litigation practice focused on employment law and workers' compensation claims. ALJ Nemechek was admitted to the California Bar in 1986 and began his legal career in Los Angeles where he represented self-insured employers, insurance carriers and municipalities in state and federal court. There he gained extensive arbitration and trial experience focusing primarily on general liability and employment claims. Returning home to Colorado in 1994, ALJ Nemechek represented both plaintiffs and defendants in employment, workers' compensation and general liability cases. As lead counsel, Judge Nemechek has tried more than 30 jury trials to verdict, in excess of 150 arbitrations (approximately one-third of which were binding) and more than 150 workers' compensation hearings. He also participated in over 200 mediations and settlement conferences in a variety of forums. From 2013-15, Judge Nemechek worked as a part-time hearing officer for the City and County of Denver, adjudicating Denver Civil Service Commission appeals. Judge Nemechek is a certified mediator. ALJ Nemechek has provided training and spoken on topics in the areas of employment law, including sexual harassment and the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as general topics in workers' compensation. He has also taught continuing legal education programs through the Colorado Bar Association. Judge Nemechek attended Creighton University where he completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in speech and communication in 1983. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego in 1986, as well as being admitted to the Order of the Barristers that year. He is a member of the Colorado and California Bar Associations, as well as the American Bar Association. He participates in the Judicial and Government & Public Sector Lawyers Divisions of the ABA.
