Jefferson V. Houpt was born and raised in the Chicago area. He graduated from Lewis & Clark College (Portland, Oregon) in 1977 with a B.S. in biology. He received his law degree in 1988 from the University of Denver College of Law. Mr. Houpt began his legal career in Denver with Saunders, Snyder, Ross and Dickson, P.C., concentrating on water and environmental law. He moved to Glenwood Springs in 1994 and now practices with the firm of Beattie, Houpt & Jarvis, LLP, where his practice continues to emphasize water resources and related matters. He represents a broad spectrum of water users and suppliers throughout Colorado, including farmers and ranchers, real estate developers, local governments, ditch companies, and water conservancy districts.
