Professor Aamir Abdullah, JD, MLIS, is one of the distinguished Instructional Services & Research Librarians at the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (Hawai'i Law). With a robust academic background, including a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from the University of North Texas and a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Houston Law Center, Professor Abdullah has made significant contributions to legal research and education. From July 2020 to July 2024, Professor Abdullah was a member of the University of Colorado Law School (Colorado Law) faculty. At Colorado Law, Professor Abdullah's teaching experience includes courses such as "Foundations of Legal Research" and "Special Topics in Legal Research: International Law.” His teaching philosophy emphasizes practical application, preparing students for both academic and professional success. Professor Abdullah frequently contributes to the Colorado Lawyer's Legal Research Corner and the American Association of Law Libraries' AALL Spectrum. Professor Abdullah's writing and research focus on the intersection of law and technology, exploring topics like generative AI in legal research, digital identity, and the use of natural language processing (NLP) in legal research platforms. His work on ethical considerations in legal technology underscores his commitment to maintaining high standards in the profession. Looking ahead, Professor Abdullah plans to contribute to the Online JD program at Hawaiʻi Law, continue his research on legal technology, and engage with the legal community through courses and workshops. Beyond his professional interests, Professor Abdullah enjoys hiking, yoga, and being a technologist; reflecting the belief he has for maintaining a balanced and fulfilling life. Aamir Abdullah's dedication to legal education, research, and community engagement makes him a valuable asset to the academic and legal communities. Prior to the joining the Legal Academy, Professor Abdullah practiced law in Texas for five years. The areas of his practice included business law and family law. In 2023, Professor Abdullah became licensed in Colorado. He currently maintains both licenses in Texas and Colorado.
