Gregory (Greg) Giometti, Esq., graduated from the University of Oregon in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in history. He then attended the University of Idaho College of Law, obtaining his J.D. degree in 1982 and becoming licensed in Idaho in September 1982. After law school, he clerked for the Idaho Court of Appeals for a year and then began practicing with a Boise defense firm, Quane, Smith, Howard and Hull. In October 1987, he was admitted to the bar in Colorado and began practicing law in Denver. For 41 years in both Idaho and Colorado, Mr. Giometti has practiced mainly in the area of insurance defense litigation, with a focus on defense of insurance bad faith claims. In addition, he has handled many plaintiffs' cases, including numerous wrongful death actions, bodily injury cases, UM/UIM cases, probate matters, and health and disability insurance claims. On October 6, 2006, Mr. Giometti started his own firm in Denver, Gregory R. Giometti & Associates, P.C. In 2018, John D. Mereness became a shareholder, and the firm now operates as Giometti & Mereness, P.C. Mr. Mereness became the President of the firm at the beginning of 2021. Mr. Giometti has conducted more than 80 civil jury trials in Colorado district courts and in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, and he has also handled numerous appellate matters. He is one of Colorado's most experienced attorneys in handling insurance bad faith and wrongful death litigation. Since 1996, Mr. Giometti has authored numerous works for Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc. Mr. Giometti's publications include Colorado Law of Insurance Bad Faith (5th ed. 2021); Colorado Automobile Accident Litigation & Insurance Handbook (3rd ed. 2018); and Handbook of Colorado Wrongful Death Law (4th ed. 2019). In addition, since 2004 Mr. Giometti has been involved actively in the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) of the American Bar Association. In 2021-22, he served as the Chair-Elect of the Insurance Coverage Litigation General Committee (ICLC), and in 2022-23, he served as the Chair of the ICLC.
