Laura A. Tighe

1st Judicial District
Honorable Laura Tighe graduated with a degree in government from the University of Notre Dame in 1984, and completed her law degree at Creighton University School of Law in 1987. She was appointed to the bench in 2014 as a District Court Judge in the First Judicial District. Judge Tighe presides over a mixed docket of domestic, civil and criminal matters. Judge Tighe was admitted to practice law in Colorado in 1987, including the U.S. District Court & U.S. Court of Appeals (10th Circuit). She is a member of the Colorado, Denver and First Judicial District Bar Associations, as well as an associate with the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). She has served as an instructor with the ABOTA Masters in Trial and Colorado Defense Lawyers Association (CDLA) Trial School. Prior to her appointment, Judge Tighe practiced civil litigation for 27 years; ten years with the firm of George D. Browning and Associates, and later, as a shareholder with Bayer & Carey P.C. Judge Tighe has served as the 2nd Vice President for the DBA, while also serving on the following boards/committees: DBA Board of Trustees, DBA Planning and Budget Committee, Colorado Bar Association Board of Governors and the Colorado Supreme Court Committee on Reciprocity. She also chaired the following: DBA Law Education Committee, DBA Mock Trial Committee, and the National Mock Trial Competition, which was held in Colorado in 1995. Judge Tighe continues to be active in the High School Mock Trials for State competitions, serving as a judge. Judge Tighe has served on the Board of Directors for the University of Notre Dame Club of Denver and as president of the Colorado Catholic Lawyers Guild, where she continues to serve on the Board of Directors. She enjoys cycling, golfing, fishing, and college football events. She is a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. John Francis Regis Chapel at Regis University. Judge Tighe is married to Casey and has two sons, Kevin (26) and Dugan (23).
