Christopher P. Beall is deputy secretary of state for the State of Colorado, responsible for all of the activities of the Department of State. Previously, Mr. Beall was a deputy attorney general in the Colorado Attorney General's Office, responsible for that office's Business & Licensing Section. Prior to joining the public sector, Mr. Beall was a partner with law firms in New York and Denver, handling intellectual property and First Amendment matters for media and entertainment companies, journalists, authors, and filmmakers. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, teaching copyright, trademark, and media law courses. At the start of his legal career, Mr. Beall served as a law clerk to the Hon. David M. Ebel, Circuit Judge, Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. Beall was a journalist with the Providence Journal-Bulletin, Las Vegas Review-Journal, and other publications.

 
Mr. Beall received his law degree from Duke University School of Law, summa cum laude, where he also served as the senior notes editor for the Duke Law Journal. Mr. Beall received his undergraduate degree from Yale University, with distinction in the major.
