Leyla S. Smieja, Esq., is Sr. Director, Corporate Counsel, with more than 15 years of experience advising enterprise technology and growth-stage companies on product development, commercialization, AI, data, and emerging technology issues. At Veritone, Inc., she partners with product, engineering, and AI teams on data-driven products and platforms. Leyla’s practice includes SaaS, software licensing, data licensing, AI services, and managed services agreements, with a focus on data rights, model inputs and outputs, and downstream use of AI-generated content. In prior corporate legal roles, including Best Buy’s International Legal Department, she supported international operations, Latin American subsidiaries, global technology transactions, software licensing, vendor services, regulatory matters, privacy, compliance, and market expansion initiatives. She also co-founded, scaled, and successfully divested a cross-border business, giving her a practical operator’s perspective on commercialization, risk allocation, and building for exit. She brings practical judgment to AI governance, product counseling, IP and data strategy, and risk allocation, helping legal and business teams move quickly while managing emerging technology risk.
