Janet Fries, Esq., is Senior Counsel at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP where she is a member of the Intellectual Property practice group. Her clients include artists and other authors, art collectors, art organizations, musicians, and filmmakers. Janet earned a B.A. from Smith College, an M.A. from San Francisco State University and a J.D. from George Washington University Law School. She is a frequent speaker and was an adjunct professor at American University Washington College of Law and George Washington University Law School for a number of years. Janet is on the board of the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, serves as an advisor to the American Law Institute's Restatement of the Law Copyright project, and is an active member of the Copyright Division of the American Bar Association. Additionally, Janet is an experienced professional editorial and fine art photographer, and a contributing photographer for Getty Images. Her work has been widely published, exhibited and acquired for the permanent collections of museums, including the National Portrait Gallery and the Oakland Museum of California.
