Elizabeth E. Brown

US Bankruptcy Court
Hon. Elizabeth E. Brown, was appointed as a bankruptcy judge in 2001 for the District of Colorado and reappointed in 2015. She served on the Tenth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel from 2003 to 2013. She is a graduate of The Colorado College and the University of Colorado Law School, with honors from both institutions. She served as the Managing Editor of the University of Colorado Law Review. Following law school, Judge Brown engaged in private practice from 1986 through 2001, primarily in the area of corporate insolvency and restructuring. Immediately prior to joining the bench, she was a partner and chair of the Bankruptcy Department at Holme, Roberts & Owen, an international law firm, in their Denver office, now known as Bryan Cave LLP. She has served as an adjunct professor at both the University of Colorado Law School and the University of Denver Sturm College of Law for many years. She was the Judicial Chair of the Rocky Mountain American Bankruptcy Institute Conference from 2001 to 2015. Judge Brown frequently lectures at regional and national programs of various organizations. She has served on various committees of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges and the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. She is the current Editor in Chief of the American Bankruptcy Law Journal. Judge Brown is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy.
